- Navigating Golf Cart Regulations on Cape San Blas: Are Golf Carts Allowed?
Are golf carts allowed on Cape San Blas? It's a question many visitors ask when planning their stay on this picturesque stretch of Florida coastline. The short answer is yes, but there are important regulations to be aware of before hitting the road—or the beach—on your trusty golf cart. Understanding the Regulations While golf carts are permitted in certain areas of Cape San Blas, there are limitations that visitors must adhere to. One of the most crucial regulations is that golf carts cannot be driven on Cape San Blas Road or the Loggerhead bike & walking path that runs alongside it. This restriction is due to the speed limit on Cape San Blas Road, which exceeds the maximum allowed for golf cart usage. According to local law, street-legal golf carts are only permitted on roads with a speed limit of 35 mph or less. With Cape San Blas Road having a speed limit of 45 mph, it's off-limits for golf carts. This means that while golf carts can be a convenient mode of transportation within neighborhoods or to nearby amenities like boardwalks and pools, they cannot be used to venture onto the main road. Exploring the Beach If you're envisioning cruising along the sandy shores of Cape San Blas in your golf cart, it's important to note that a permit is required to drive on the beach. However, many local rental companies include this permit as part of their rental packages. So, if you're renting a golf cart from a local company, chances are they'll provide you with the necessary permit to explore the beachfront in style. Alternative Modes of Exploration While golf carts have their limitations in Cape San Blas, a popular option is to rent bicycles or electric bikes (e-bikes). These offer a convenient way to explore Cape San Blas, including on the Loggerhead Path that stretches 8 miles along the peninsula. For those staying at accommodations like A Tier Above, which offers close proximity to beach access and a private pool, a golf cart is not necessary. Biking is an excellent alternative to golf carts, offering fun and engaging exploration along the Cape without the restrictions. Resources for Further Information If you're still curious about the ins and outs of golf cart usage in Gulf County, resources like the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office Golf Cart FAQs can provide valuable insights. This resource offers detailed information on regulations, safety guidelines, and other important considerations for golf cart owners and users. Ultimately, while golf carts may have some limitations on Cape San Blas, bikes offer an alternative to getting around. Whether you're exploring on two wheels, lounging by the pool, or indulging at the local restaurants, Cape San Blas offers endless opportunities for relaxation and adventure.

- Sea Turtle Season on Cape San Blas
It's May 1st and that means it's Sea Turtle Season! We LOVE our Sea Turtles here at the Cape! Cape San Blas is home to the Loggerhead Sea Turtles, an endangered species. This area has the largest population of nesting Loggerhead Sea Turtles in Northwest Florida. Sea Turtle Season is May 1st to October 31st. Nests are typically made between high tide line and the dune fronts. The turtles emerge onto the beach at night every 14 days, laying an average of four clutches containing roughly 100-120 eggs in each. The eggs hatch about 60 days later. The little hatchlings will wait until dark to make their long trek back to the Gulf. Super interesting fact: Every two to three years, female loggerheads mate in coastal waters and then may travel over 1200km back to the very same beach where she hatched as a baby, called the natal beach! It is on this same beach that she layers her own eggs as an adult. The Loggerhead Sea Turtle was listed as threatened in 1978 under the Endangered Species Act and has federal protection. Help us protect these massive, beautiful marine creatures so they continue to come back year after year! Keep the beaches clean, flat and dark and follow our Leave No Trace Ordinance. At the end of your day at the beach, please do your part by filling holes, removing your trash and beach equipment, leaving only your footprints behind. Fun Turtle Related Activities: Turtle Patrol- The Turtle Patrol walks roughly 6 miles of beach every morning to monitoring nesting and hatching activity. They look the “crawl” (tracks) of an adult turtle coming from the water and follow it to the nesting location. At that point the dig to locate eggs, screen and cover the eggs, and mark off the area with stakes and tape to protect the nest and warn beach-goers not to disturb. Schedule your Turtle Walk! Click Here! Adopt a nest! For a donation, you can help with the effort to protect the sea turtles! You will get a sign on the nest with your message, a certificate of adoption, a picture of your nest, and an end of the season report on the nesting and hatching activity. - Beach Flag Warning and Water Safety
3 Things to know before going in the water We want you to enjoy the beautiful beaches and Gulf water and want you to be safe while doing so! Please respect the power of the water and check the current swim conditions everyday. Weather Service Beach Conditions or The south Gulf County Fire and Rescue. 1. Flag Warning System The flag system in Gulf County is managed by volunteers and the South Gulf Fire Rescue. Each day they will update the flag. They are found at both north and south fire stations and the State Park. 2. Rip Currents Rip currents are channeled currents of water flowing away from the shore. They pull you out, not under. The strongest of swimmers can be pulled out to sea. If you experience a rip current pulling you out, the first thing to do is stay calm. If you can, swim parallel to the beach until you get out of the current and then swim back to shore at an angle. If you can’t swim out of it, float or tread water while waving for help on the shore. 3. Life Guards Gulf County DOES NOT have lifeguards on any of the beaches. Please be careful!
